Say “Yes” To Christian Fellowship

Hopecityuc   -

When it comes to attending church most people will reason that it’s not necessary to have a relationship with God? They’ll argue that fellowship isn’t important and the Word is the only thing they need to be a good Christian. But should our spiritual goals stop just being a good Christian?

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. –Romans 12:1-2

Our spiritual goals should go far beyond just being a good Christian. We want to strive to become less and less like the people of this world but the only way this can be achieved is through fellowship.

What Is Christian Fellowship?

The word Koinonia, the Greek word for fellowship, appears in the Bible 20 times. It is defined as a “friendly association between people who share the same interests.” As Christians, we share the same interest in the expansion of God’s Kingdom so it should make sense that we would want to stay in close association with each other.

But why?

Why Is Christian Fellowship So Important?

In Biblical times, early Christians stressed the importance of fellowship within the church.

The Bible says that Jesus went to the synagogue because it was his “custom,” or his traditional way of behaving (Luke 4:16).  Fellowship on a regular base was something that was important to Jesus and therefore it should be something we value and treasure as well.

Additionally, Christian fellowship grows the church and the people in it because it’s where God shows up(Matthew 18:20). When you’re in the midst of other Christians who love Jesus as much as you do, you’ll always grow as a Christian and come to appreciate the sacrifice he made for us.

How to say yes to fellowship?

Just like God shows up for us, we should want to reciprocate that same sentiment and show up for Him regularly. Fellowship may not be an explicit command but it is strongly implied that we should commune and be in the company of others who crave the radical transformation that only Jesus can give.
